Last 11th-13th of February, during the transnational meeting in Paris promoted and participated by hundreds of activists, groups and networks that are struggling against precarization, austerity policies and cuts to education, Tunisian activists proposed a great meeting in Tunisia. The project immediately became a central issue in the construction of the Knowledge Liberation Front, because a new Europe begins from the Maghreb revolution. The 13th of May we will leave the European universities in struggle to transgress European borders and unite our conflicts with the uprisings on the other shore of the Mediterranean Sea, because they are our uprisings.

The activists in Tunis who have been organizing the meeting since mid February are extremely clear about its content: let’s not call this initiative a caravan because we have no need for help or simple solidarity, concepts that often hide traces of colonial charity, and because we are perfectly able to do the revolution without teachers. Moreover, they have added over the last weeks, what we see arriving labeled as “humanitarian” from the other shore of the Mediterranean are bombs and war. Instead, we need your struggles to unite the two shores of the Mediterranean through conflict and social transformation, to oust all tyrants – from Ben Ali to the tyrants of the financial capitalism.

This is the reason why activists, students and precarious workers of the Knowledge Liberation Front will go to Tunisia since the 13th of May: to learn. We will go to Tunisia to understand and to do militant inquiry, because the insurgent composition – highly educated young people and unemployed or precarious workers impoverished by the crisis, a system that produces corruption, women reclaiming and acting out their liberty, people who want to live and move without borders – has common characteristics with the European movements revolting against austerity and the cuts to education and welfare. We will go to Tunisia to bring our experiences and discuss, starting from the transnational common days of action against banks and the financial capitalism of the 24th-25th-26th of March. We will go to Tunisia to build relations and not to follow media events. We will go to Tunisia to organize together against a war run against the women and men who are rebelling in the North Africa: it is not against Gaddafi, who has always been a faithful ally of the Western powers in the war against migrants, but against the revolution. We will go to Tunisia to fight, together, against European borders and for the free circulation of people and knowledge. We will go to Tunisia to make Tunisia our university. Without aesthetics of revolt or the ambiguous veils of humanitarian causes and supposed solidarity, we want to learn what it means today, in Europe, to do as has been done in Tunisia.

The 13th of May we take only the first step: we want to build up a process and carry out concrete projects and, together with Tunisian activists, call for another great initiative in the next few months. For this reason, we will go to Tunisia cooperating with a delegation of activists involved in the NoBorder network, to claim freedom without borders. Because the real “caravan” will be towards Europe: following the migrants’ practices of liberty and the teachings of the Tunisian uprising, we want to liberate ourselves from all the tyrants.

13 maggio 2011 – Dalle università ribelli all’insorgenza tunisina

Lo scorso 11-13 febbraio, durante il meeting transnazionale di Parigi promosso e partecipato da centinaia di attiviste e attivisti, gruppi e reti che si stanno battendo contro la precarizzazione, le politiche di austerità e i tagli alla formazione, alcuni militanti tunisini hanno proposto di organizzare un grande incontro in Tunisia. Il progetto è immediatamente diventato un punto centrale nella costruzione del Knowledge Liberation Front, perché una nuova Europa comincia dalla rivoluzione nel Maghreb.

Il 13 maggio, quindi, partiremo da tutte le università europee in lotta per mettere in discussione i confini europei e unirci alle rivolte sull’altra sponda del Mediterraneo, perché quelle sono le nostre rivolte.

Le attiviste e gli attivisti che a Tunisi da metà febbraio stanno organizzando l’incontro sono stati molto chiari su un punto fondamentale: non diamo a questo progetto il nome di carovana, perché noi non abbiamo bisogno del vostro aiuto o semplicemente della vostra solidarietà di occidentali, che spesso porta il segno della carità coloniale, e perché la rivoluzione abbiamo dimostrato di saperla fare senza che qualcuno ci insegnasse.

 Inoltre, aggiungono nelle ultime settimane, dall’altra sponda del Mediterraneo quello che vediamo arrivare con l’etichetta umanitaria sono le bombe e la guerra. Noi abbiamo invece bisogno delle vostre lotte, di unire le due sponde del Mediterraneo attraverso il conflitto e la trasformazione, cacciando tutti i tiranni – da Ben Ali a quelli del capitalismo finanziario.

Ecco perché, a metà maggio, come attiviste e attivisti, studentesse e studenti, precarie e precari del Knowledge Liberation Front andremo in Tunisia a partire dal 13 maggio: per imparare. Dunque, andremo in Tunisia per capire e fare inchiesta militante, perché la composizione sociale che è insorta – giovani altamente scolarizzati e precari o disoccupati, lavoratori impoveriti dalla crisi e da un sistema che produce corruzione, donne che rivendicano e praticano la propria libertà, soggetti che vogliono vivere e muoversi senza confini – ha dei tratti fortemente comuni con la composizione dei movimenti che in tutta Europa si stanno rivoltando contro le politiche di austerity e i tagli alla formazione e al welfare.

 Andremo in Tunisia per portare le nostre esperienze e confrontarci, a partire dalle giornate di azione comune contro le banche e il capitalismo finanziario che abbiamo fatto dal 24 al 26 marzo a livello europeo e globale. Andremo in Tunisia per stringere rapporti e relazioni, non per inseguire la visibilità degli eventi mediatici. Andremo in Tunisia per organizzarci insieme contro una guerra che è condotta contro le donne e gli uomini che, in tutto il Nord Africa, si stanno ribellando: non contro Gheddafi – fedele alleato occidentale in un’altra guerra, quella ai migranti – ma contro la rivoluzione.

Andremo in Tunisia per batterci, insieme, contro i confini europei e per la libera circolazione delle persone e dei saperi. Andremo in Tunisia, innanzitutto, per fare della Tunisia la nostra università. Senza nessuna estetica della rivolta o ambigua velleità umanitaria e solidaristica, vogliamo imparare cosa significa oggi, in Europa, fare come in Tunisia.

Dunque, il 13 maggio sarà solo un primo passaggio: quello che ci interessa è costruire un progetto politico e progetti concreti, e convocare insieme alle attiviste e agli attivisti tunisini un’altra grande iniziativa nei prossimi mesi. Per questa ragione andremo in Tunisia insieme a una delegazione di attiviste e attivisti della rete NoBorder, per rivendicare una libertà senza confini. Perché la vera “carovana” sarà quella verso l’Europa, seguendo le pratiche di libertà dei migranti e gli insegnamenti dell’insurrezione in Tunisia su come liberarci dai tiranni.

Su questa base, invitiamo tutte e tutti, attiviste e attivisti, studentesse e studenti, lavoratori e lavoratrici precarie, gruppi e reti, collettivi anti-razzisti, media e artisti indipendenti, donne e uomini che non accettano la guerra e la violenza della crisi, a partecipare al progetto e organizzare incontri di presentazione dell’iniziativa: makeouruniversity@googlegroup.org
